Mogwai are demons that inflict harm on humans and are native to China. They can determine fates of death and desire that tether people to an unending cycle of reincarnation and suffering. The Mogwai has evolved to refer to the ghosts of non-family members taking vengeance on people who have caused them pain while they were alive. Many Chinese people attempt to rectify their sins by sacrificing money (also called hell money or joss paper) to the Mogwai. Due to the movie adaptation, “Gremlins,” a lot of information was lost in history; however, the term 'Gremlin' actually derived from WWII. Gremlin was used by the Britain's Royal Air Force to refer to those that sabotaged planes.

This modern depiction features the Mogwai as a winged demon carrying disease and destruction. This design was inspired by H. R. Giger and his Alien Xenomorph and its combatant The Predator. I wanted it to be something familiar and yet new and unique in its own way. I wanted to also give a nod of familiarity to the movie that made this creature famous! If you look at the head sculpt above, you can sort of recognize the silhouette as resembling the lizard type gremlins from the movie "Gremlins"! This creature terrorizes those that are impure by causing extremely bad luck, random bruises and scratches, and even death. In order to get rid of it, you have to rectify the wrongdoing.
